Self-care Sun-yayy!

Whoop whoop!

I always get extremely excited for Sunday’s because today is all about taking a little bit of extra time to check in with my mind, body, and soul 😊

Let’s do this!

So why Sunday Emily?

Well I’ll tell ya

I started ‘Self-care Sun-yayy’ during the first lockdown last year.

I was so bored at home and every Sunday I would just lounge around the house and waste the whole day doing nothing. Whilst that is good.

And all I do in lockdown anyway haha

Because I was so bored, I started spiralling.

I am a classic overthinker, and if I have nothing to do for some reason my mind will start to wonder.

So, on one hand, I wanted to keep busy to stop myself from spiralling, but, on the other hand, I was depressed and struggled to find the energy to get out of bed.

And one morning, I woke up really early and couldn’t get back to sleep.

That is strange for me, not gonna lie I love to sleep!

I was just lying there, staring at the ceiling with my boyfriend snoring in my ear and I was like ‘okay, I’m up!’

I got up, went to the bathroom, and whilst I was in the bathroom, I decided to have a soak in the bath.

You know it was quiet, no one else was awake, the sun was shining, and the birds were singing, it just seemed like the perfect morning.

I had not felt so at peace in months!

It felt like all my stress and anxiety were just melting into the water.

Afterward, I genuinely thought I had cured my depression by taking a bath.

I decided there and then that I would do this every Sunday.

I literally felt like I created Selfcare Sundays haha!

What do you do on Selfcare Sun-yay?

Whatever the f**k I want! lol

Okay, so I am a girl that loves a plan!

Planning out what I am going to do is like a safety blanket for me, it just makes me feel calm.

I will always have a loose plan in my head of what my Selfcare Sun-yay is going to be like each week.

For example, if I have had an anxious week and been getting lots of intrusive thoughts, I will spend a vast majority of my Sunday cleaning, because I feel like I am cleaning away all of my anxious energy ready for the new week.

So, even though my Selfcare Sun-yay routine varies from week to week.

I will always make sure that I spend a little bit of time to take care of,

  • My body
  • My mind
  • My soul

Body…

So, to take care of my body, I do the classics.

I have a long hot soak in the bath with all the added extras! I am talking bath salts, candles, bubble bath, and a bath bomb!

And I love putting on a hair mask.

Then when I am done in the bath, I do my skincare, which makes me feel soooo good afterward!

If I feel a bit more energetic, I’ll do a little bit of yoga!

I love the YouTuber Yoga with Adreian, she does so many different yoga practices (even 30-day practices that I never complete)

I particularly love her bedtime yoga practices! It really helps me have a good night’s sleep!

I feel like self-care for the body is kind of self-explanatory, I basically just have a pamper day!

Mind…

Self-care for the mind is the hardest one for me.

I can’t meditate for sh*t!

I get very distracted when I am trying to meditate, I don’t know what it is about meditation I just struggle so much trying to do it, I can’t sit still long enough!

Maybe I should keep trying…

So, sometimes I will read.

I love fantasy books! I love all the different worlds and characters; I can get lost in it for hours! My imagination just runs wild! I love it!

I will do some journaling as well; I don’t know if anyone else has a bullet journal, but they are amazing! It is so creative, and you can make it all colourful and it’s just so much fun!

Also, Sunday is my writing day.

So, I will do a lot of my blog writing on a Sunday because it’s the day I feel most relaxed.

Soul…

For me, Self-Care for the soul is just anything that is going to make me happy!

Self-Care things for the soul that make me happy,

  • Listening to cheesy music and singing along
  • Playing my pink ukulele
  • Giving my house plants some attention
  • Catching up with my family

I just love doing little things that make me happy.

Obviously, I do things that make me happy every day of the week, but I always like to end the week on a positive note.

And I believe that taking a little bit of time at the end of the week to check in with yourself is so important!

Anyway, I feel like you get the point haha!

So yeah, Self-care Sun-yay’s are the best day of the week!

Taking time to take care of myself feels amazing, I highly recommend trying it!
